Desk is a desktop writing/publishing app for Mac. It allows you to write free of distractions and then when your finished you can publish it to various plattforms with the press of a button.
I like the interface. I really like the distraction free interface where I can focus on my writing. No clutter or any other annoyances are here to disturb me from writing the perfect article. Sure WordPress has this function as well. But it is not the standard way and having to log onto wordpress each and every time I want to write something is starting to bore me. It doesn´t cost much time no but if I have an idea for a post I want to be able to start writing almost immediately. With Desk I can do this with ease, which is a really good thing.
This comes with a price though. Apparently it formates everything into HTML so it adds a lot of <p> tags which are not really needed since wordpress itself adds them automatically. Or it might just be a setting which I have yet not found, just doing this to try it out.
Also adding just one new line in Desk adds a completely blank line in wordpress. When I write I want to have some white space in my text as it makes things easier to sort and it is just my writing style to add whitespace when I can. Once again this might be a setting which I have somehow not triggered or not. I´m learning but it just comes of to me as a pretty weird thing to do for a program that should make publishing and writing easier.
It also isn´t free to use so at this point I´m quite disappointed in Desk. But I hope I will get to learn how to work with it´s quirks and then get it working to my satisfaction. It’s all in the users hand I believe.
- Ease to type distraction free.
- Easy to configure for publishing to wordpress.
- Fast and responsive.
- Local and iCloud saves
- Adds unneeded markup
- Not inituitve with how it adds featured images and categories or even tags
- ”Read more” button comes out in a terribly weird code for wordpress.
But I guess I´ll give this program a shot. The very first impressions are alright. If you want to check it out on the app store then by all means have a go.
And yes, this post is written and published using Desk. As a tryout to see how it all ends up. Sorry if it breakes something for your viewing.
